Our Science
Technology at a Glance
We started as a microRNA platform company in 2012. Today, our laboratory provides genomic and biomarker testing services, including APOE genotyping, to research organizations and biopharmaceutical partners.
Diagnostics and Biomarker Science
MicroRNAs are small regulatory RNA molecules that help control gene expression. Some are enriched in specific organs, including particular regions of the brain and the synapses that connect neurons. Brain-enriched microRNAs can cross the blood-brain barrier and be measured in plasma, which makes them candidate biomarkers of brain and synaptic health that can be assessed from a routine blood draw.
Our platform quantifies panels of organ-enriched and inflammation-associated microRNAs in plasma using reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) in our accredited laboratory. Analytical validation of our 24-microRNA CogniMIR® panel was published in the peer-reviewed journal Diagnostics in 2023. The platform is protected by a portfolio of more than 50 issued patents worldwide.
Alongside microRNA testing, our laboratory provides APOE genotyping and protein biomarker analyses that support clinical and translational research in Alzheimer’s disease.

Programs
APOE Genotyping Services
Apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotyping for clinical and translational research is performed in our CAP-accredited and New York State-permitted laboratory. APOE genotype is a key genetic marker with clinical significance in Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular health, and lipid metabolism research, and is increasingly relevant to eligibility and safety monitoring in Alzheimer's disease therapeutic programs.

Our lead test candidate has completed analytical validation and is undergoing clinical validation for risk stratification and early detection of mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. Earlier-stage programs apply the same approach to glioblastoma, neurodevelopmental disorders, and screening for other organ pathologies.
View programGlioblastoma
This program is investigating the utility of plasma microRNA signatures as minimally invasive biomarkers of glioblastoma, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania. Glioblastoma carries a median survival of fewer than 15 months after diagnosis, and its detection and monitoring rely on imaging and invasive biopsy. A blood-based marker could support earlier detection and monitoring.
View programRett Syndrome
Brain-enriched microRNAs are also being studied as biomarkers in neurodevelopmental disorders, including Rett syndrome for prognosticating disease severity. Because the degree of change in specific microRNA signatures tracks with clinical severity scores and disease progression, the test offers a minimally invasive, objective way to gauge how severely a patient is affected and to monitor response to treatment over time.
